Before ERPNext, Aagam Apparels relied on Tally for accounting, while most operational activities such as inventory tracking, production planning, and reporting were managed through spreadsheets and manual processes. One of the biggest challenges was managing product variants.

  • Apparel manufacturing involves multiple variations of the same product, including different sizes and designs. Maintaining separate Bills of Materials for each variation manually was time-consuming and often led to inconsistencies in production planning.
  • Inventory visibility was another issue. The team did not have an easy way to check real-time availability of fabrics and accessories, which sometimes caused delays in procurement and production.
  • Production planning also operated independently of sales orders, making it difficult to forecast material requirements and to monitor manufacturing progress across departments.
  • Additionally, workforce attendance and shop-floor productivity were tracked through separate systems, limiting visibility into day-to-day operations.

ERPNext was implemented to unify the company’s operations and connect different departments through a single platform.

  • The implementation included core modules such as Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing, Accounting, and HRMS, allowing the company to manage its key processes within ERPNext.
  • A major focus of the project was solving the variant BOM challenge common in apparel manufacturing.
  • A structured item hierarchy and variant-based BOM setup were created, allowing a single base BOM to expand across multiple size and colour variations. This significantly simplified product management and production planning.
  • ERPNext also enabled connected production planning, allowing the team to track operations and manufacturing progress in real time.

To further automate operations, the system was integrated with external tools used by the company:

  • STITCH integration, which synchronises production plans based on design updates
  • Biometric attendance integration, which automatically captures worker attendance and connects it with processes.
