We are building BuildSuite Core, an open-source construction layer on top of Frappe / ERPNext.

From our experience working closely with construction companies, we’ve seen that most teams struggle to adapt generic ERP systems to their actual site workflows. Construction execution is very different — it revolves around BOQs, site-level material movement, subcontractor tracking, and labour-driven progress. Because of this mismatch, many critical activities are still managed outside the system even after ERP adoption.

BuildSuite Core is an attempt to bridge this gap by extending ERPNext into a construction-friendly structure, while still staying aligned with the existing framework.

The scope includes enhancing the Project module to support BOQ-linked planning, task dependencies, milestones, and progress tracking. It will also introduce basic resource tracking for labour, materials, and machinery at a project level, along with a construction-oriented purchase flow starting from site material requests.

In addition, we plan to include a simple subcontractor workflow, project-based expense tracking (including petty cash and internal transfers), and basic labour attendance linked to projects. The app will also provide construction-specific reports and dashboards to improve visibility.

This will be developed as a modular Frappe app that can be easily installed on top of ERPNext.

Advanced capabilities like payroll automation, compliance workflows, mobile apps, and AI-based insights will be developed as separate commercial modules on top of this core.

The goal is to make ERPNext more practical for construction companies and create a strong base for further ecosystem development.
